(Venice, Italy) Have you ever been inside a prison? I hadn't, especially not a women's prison.

"It's not an exhibition. It's an experience." The architect, Flavia Chiavaroli, said those words to me inside the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena. Located in Venice on the island of Giudecca, the church is part of the Venice women's prison complex, and is at the end of the With My Eyes tour that was guided by two female inmates.

Indeed. It was a deeply emotional experience. It was so moving that I went back to the women's prison a second time. And then I had one of the most powerful experiences I've had in my life.
