I adore him. In a week or two I'm going to a lecture that covers his expertise (Titian, Tinteretto and Veronese)from a different point of view. Perhaps I'll blog about it.Cat Bauer in Venice Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18376687575392758300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658567784785639005.post-88921473193205695152010-05-06T18:45:26.186+02:002010-05-06T18:45:26.186+02:00That's right! My mind is going at an early age....LOL
BTW going to hear John Dixon Hunt speak about Ventetian gardens later this month at the Boston chapter of Save Venice. I'll have to tell you about it! Your name came up in a conversation with Fredrick Ilchman at the last lecture I attended. The lecture was by the Gable's who own Villa Cornaro in Piombino Dese.

ChristopherAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658567784785639005.post-91629363127823332222010-05-05T13:33:36.529+02:002010-05-05T13:33:36.529+02:00Christopher, you are thinking of Veronese's &q...Christopher, you are thinking of Veronese's "Feast in the House of Levi," his version of The Last Supper, which he renamed after the Inquisition told him it was blasphemous. The "Wedding at Cana" is a different dinner, different painting:) Remember when the wine was running out at the wedding feast, and Jesus turned the water into wine? That dinner. (It's a neat trick I wish I knew how to do:) It hung in the Palladian Refectory for 235 years until Napoleon took it. France was supposed to give it back, but they didn't. Instead they keep hiding it during the various wars; it's been damaged more than once. We could just switch the original painting in the Louvre with the copy here in Venice, and Veronese could get some rest:)Cat Bauer in Venice Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18376687575392758300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658567784785639005.post-66304877440251448172010-05-03T22:15:31.526+02:002010-05-03T22:15:31.526+02:00I guess I was lucky to see the original in the Acc...I guess I was lucky to see the original in the Accademia way back in the fall of '98!
ChristopherAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658567784785639005.post-89367901483831921542010-05-02T23:20:35.160+02:002010-05-02T23:20:35.160+02:00Fantastic history lesson Cat!Fantastic history lesson Cat!Theresa Cheekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11429069123185290732noreply@blogger.com
